A sponsor is someone who pays for your therapy sessions from their own Mytherapist.ng account: a parent, a partner, a friend. They set a monthly limit. They see what they pay and when, and nothing about your sessions. Either of you can end it at any time.
Open the Profile tab and tap Sponsors, in the app or on the web. Who pays for me lists your sponsors. Who I pay for lists the people you sponsor.
Two ways to set it up
Someone offers to pay for you
The sponsor starts it. Under Who I pay for, they tap Sponsor someone and choose one of two ways to send the offer:
- By email. They enter your email address. Only the account signed in with that address can accept the offer, so use the email your Mytherapist.ng account is on.
- Share a link. They get a link to send on WhatsApp or however they like. Whoever opens it first can accept it, once.
They set the monthly limit and how they pay before the offer goes out, so the offer you receive shows the limit. They can add a short message.
You get the offer by email, and in the app if you already have an account. Open it, sign in, and tap Accept or No, thanks. Once you accept, they appear under "Who pays for me".
You ask someone to sponsor you
You start it. Under Who pays for me, tap Invite a sponsor. Enter their name and either their email address or their phone number (the invite goes by text message), and a message if you want. Your own email needs to be verified first.
The invite says nothing about your therapy beyond naming Mytherapist.ng. When they accept, they set their own monthly limit and how they pay. You can have up to 3 sponsors and 3 invites waiting at a time, and you can withdraw an invite at any point.
Invites stay open for 7 days
Every offer and invite says "Open until" with the date. After 7 days it closes on its own, and the person who sent it can send a new one.
The monthly limit and how it is paid
The limit is per calendar month, between ₦1,000 and ₦1,000,000, and it resets on the 1st. A booking has to fit in what is left of the month, including any anonymous-booking fee, or it cannot be paid by that sponsor.
The sponsor chooses one of three ways to pay:
| How they pay | What happens |
|---|---|
| Their wallet | The session is paid from their wallet when you book |
| A saved card | Their card is charged when you book |
| A bank account by direct debit | Their bank keeps their wallet topped up to an amount they choose. Bookings are paid from the wallet; a bank top-up takes a few hours to arrive, so it never pays a booking on its own |
They can change the limit or how they pay at any time under Limit and payment. A lower limit applies to the next booking, never to one already paid.
You never see their balance or how they pay. If they cannot cover a booking, checkout tells you why and switches to your wallet. In Sponsors, Ask to top up next to their name sends them a reminder, once a day.
Paying with a sponsor when you book
At checkout, pick your sponsor as the payer. The button reads "Book · Ada pays", and a note under it says they will see the amount and the date, and nothing about the session. If you have more than one sponsor, Change sponsor picks another.
What your sponsor can and cannot see
They see each payment's date and amount, what is left of the month, and any refund. Their wallet history reads "Session for Ada (sponsored)."
They are never shown your therapist, the time or type of a session, your notes or your messages. If you want them to know more, you tell them yourself.
Ending a sponsorship
Either of you can end it at any time, with no notice period. You tap End next to their name in Sponsors; they tap Stop sponsoring. Nothing more is charged, sessions already paid for stay booked, and the other person is told. To start again later, one of you sends a new invite.
Refunds on sponsored sessions
If a sponsored session is cancelled or declined, the refund goes to whoever paid: your sponsor's wallet, whether they paid from the wallet or by card. It stops counting against that month's limit, and they are told "₦X is back in your wallet". See how refunds work.
The monthly statement
On the 1st of each month your sponsor gets an email headed "What you paid for Ada in October": the total, then each payment by date and amount, with any refund marked. It lists nothing about the sessions themselves. No payments in a month means no statement.
"Make them a sponsor" on a Pay for me link
When you create a Pay for me link for one session, you can tick Make them a sponsor. The page the payer opens tells them you would like them to keep paying for your sessions, up to a monthly limit they choose. After they pay, an invite goes to the email they paid with. They can say no, and the session is paid either way.

A sponsor is different from an employer or HMO benefit, which comes through your organisation's plan rather than a person's account. See book with your employer benefit.
