Mental health services by state

Public hospitals with psychiatric care, drug and alcohol services, help after sexual violence, and the phone lines that answer. Each one is checked on its own website before it goes on a page, and our phone checks are ongoing.

How we check

What goes on these pages

We list public services: federal and state hospitals, government agencies and a few long-running charities. Each listing was read on the institution's own website on the date shown on its card. A state gets a page once at least two of its services have been checked that way, so some states aren't here yet. Our team is ringing the numbers too; where a call has confirmed one, its card says so. If a detail is wrong, tell us through the contact page.
